As summer is coming to a close, keep in mind Team ELM still has some summer fun to offer! Session 9 is coming up next week and this is what's happening!
What's Your Job? 8/16-8/22 9AM-11AM Learning about other occupations broadens their choices and increases the odds that they will be able to find suitable careers. As they get closer to having to prepare for them, they can narrow down their choices and even begin to take related courses once they are in high school. Career exploration is a fundamental part of development. It can really help them to look forward to, and prepare for, what the future holds. Equipping them with the knowledge that there are so many different paths out there for them, and the world really is their oyster. Building Character 8/16-8/22 11:30AM-1:30PM They're proud of the things they can do and want to try their best. When kids are confident and secure about who they are, they're more likely to have a growth mindset. That means they can motivate themselves to take on new challenges and cope with and learn from mistakes. Self-confidence enables students to handle setbacks with ease. Instead of being crippled by failure, resilient children get up quickly, learn from their mistakes, and try again. They accept that failure is a part of life and take more chances as a result - which makes them even more successful later in life. Cooking 8/16-8/22 2PM-5PM Learning to cook will help you understand world cultures, customs and flavors. You will also learn life skills like eating healthy, budgeting and more. Teaching kids basic cooking skills sets them up for the future so well. They will be able to cook and feed themselves once they are on their own. Teaching children cooking skills is also a great way to create curiosity to try new foods and broaden their palates, as well as teach them about nutrition and how foods are created. Book Club 8/16-8/22 5:30PM-6:30PM Book clubs encourage critical thinking and deeper engagement with stories. Children will learn to value books and stories. As well as spark your child's imagination and stimulate curiosity. Helping develop your child's brain, ability to focus, concentration, social skills, and communication skills. In this club, your child will be able to interact with other children while answering questions and voicing opinions. They will also enjoy books and participate in reading themed games and activities. ASL 8/16-8/22 7PM-8PM Studying ASL promotes better awareness and sensitivity to the deaf and hard of hearing community. As someone proficient in ASL, you will develop a strong appreciation for deaf culture, and you can promote understanding and acceptance of the language among others. Sign language is a brilliant tool that will help bridge that communication gap that might exist when there is a hearing impairment and even in situations where there is no hearing impairment present. Since communication is so important, that makes learning sign language invaluable for communication.
